The Problem

Cheap beach toys break before summer ends

You've been there. You buy a $6 bucket set, it cracks on day two, and half of it ends up in the sand — or worse, the ocean. Parents are tired of it. So are their kids.

The Inventors

Invented by two kids on a tidal creek.

ShovelBucket started on a dock on James Island, South Carolina. Bowen, six, and Thomas, four, spend their summers in pluff mud, on the jon boat, and at the beach — and kept ending up with buckets that split and shovels that snapped.

Their fix was simple: stop making two things. Make one. The front edge of the bucket is the shovel.

Their dad is a marine engineer, so the sketch turned into something that could actually survive the coast: a single rotomolded piece with hull-thick walls and nothing to break off. The first prototype gets tested the only way that counts — by the kids who dreamed it up.
